BEANTOWN SOFTBALL LEAGUE

The annual Latin American Festival will be held at Roberto Clemente Field from Sunday, July 19th through Sunday, July 26th, necessitating some schedule changes which have been listed in this issue's scoreboard. Barring any further postponements or rainouts, this year's playoffs will begin on Saturday, August 8th.

It was a good week for Paradise, as they held on for tough victories over Buddies and Chaps to move into first place in the standings. On Wednesday, Buddies spotted the Big Green a 8-2 lead before finally losing 10-9. Dick had a couple of big hits for the winners while Gary whacked a three-run homer for Buddies. In the second game, the Ramrod rode a four hit, 3 RBI performance by Ralph and four hits by Tommy to a 12-7 victory over Isaiahs. One thing must be said for the Worcester team, that despite a tough season, they have hung in there and manager Danny is to be commended for keeping the club together.

On Saturday, 1270 came up with another gutsy performance, defeating the Ramrod by a 9-7 margin despite the loss of four of their regular players. Vic had a homerun and 3 RBI and Rod and George each had a pair of hits for 1270. Tommy went 2 for 3 for the Ramrod, while Brian chipped in with a pair of RBI. In the second game, Chaps pummeled Prelude to the tune of 27-1 as all of their big bats came to life. Billy went 5 for 5 with 2 homeruns, Dave had four hits and John B. and Gigs each had 3 hits, with Gigs' accounting for 7 RBI. Leftfielder Tommy celebrated his return from the injured list wiht 3 hits of his own. Nice to see you back, Tommy!

On Sunday, Paradise moved into first place with their victory over Chaps. Paradise scored 8 runs in the first two innings on homeruns by Dick and George and a 3 run shot by league leader, Gary. Chaps made a strong effort to get back in the game but Paradise held on for the victory. The second game saw 1270 take over third place with a 9-6 win over Buddies, which had had a horrible second half. Buddy pitched a solid game for the Twelve and leftfielder George had a strong defensive effort. Jim continued his hot hitting for Buddies with 3 hits, including a 2 run homer. In the final contest of the day, the Ramrod got opposite field homeruns from Brian and Mario, plus 3 hits by Dale, en route to a 19-5 finale over Isaiahs.

Don't forget the benefit this Wednesday, July 15th at The Top of The Twelve. The benefit will start at 9:00 pm, at the conclusion of that night's games.
